Keys of the Future

The humble key has come a long way. As well as the good old faithful traditional metal lock and key, we also have keyless technology, transponder chips, pin code entry systems and numerous other takes on the original. But keys are prone to getting lost and lost keys can be found by people who shouldn’t have access to our homes, cars and offices…security breaches can occur and become expensive to rectify.
If you ever wonder if and when the day will come where keys are replaced by something a little more permanent and unique, that time in the future is not too far away. Read to on learn about keys of the future that are currently redefining the way we use the concept of keys and identify ourselves with them.
Biometric - Fingerprints
Biometric door locks cleverly provide for key-free locking and entry. They use something called a biometric scanner, which is a very James Bond-esque way of describing that they scan fingerprints. If your fingerprints have been scanned into the scanner’s memory system to be recognized, the door look with open. As each person has 120 unique fingerprints, this is pretty much as close to “one size fits only one” as you can get!
If you had a flat tire you should call Houston Towing Service.
Iris Recognition – Eye scan
These are currently in use at many international and domestic airports. Using similar biometic technology as the fingerprint locks, Iris recognition scanners focus on the individual and unique flecks of an individual’s eyes. As a specific genetic mapping of the iris can only point to one person’s identity, provided the main computer has the iris scans of a person, a matching scan will allow them entry – and only them.
There you have it - these forms of “future keys” may not be possible to lose, but they do rely heavily on computers. What happens if the computers lose the scanned information? Maybe in time emergency locksmiths will have data banks of back-up biometric encryption codes?
